Mr Niemann's appointment comes as outgoing chief executive Pauline Gordon wraps up her tenure on Wednesday, August 26, moving on to an executive leadership position at the City of Boroondara.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell said Mr Niemann brings extensive experience in local government leadership and governance.
“Craig is a highly respected local government leader with a strong track record of executive leadership and organisational stewardship,’’ he said.
Mr Niemann served for many years as chief executive at the City of Greater Bendigo, finishing up in his role in 2023.
Since then, he has taken on interim chief executive roles at Horsham Rural City Council and Glenelg Shire Council, contributed to several boards, and most recently contracted to review Campaspe Port Enterprise.
Cr Mackrell said this involvement had given Mr Niemann a strong understanding of the organisation, the region and council’s current priorities.
“Craig’s recent work with CPE means he already has valuable knowledge of local communities and the opportunities and challenges ahead,’’ he said.
“He brings strong governance expertise, significant senior leadership experience and a calm, considered approach that will help guide council through the recruitment and transition process,” he said.
Cr Mackrell thanked Ms Gordon for her outstanding service and leadership during her time with Campaspe Shire Council.
“On behalf of council, I would like to sincerely thank Pauline for her dedication, professionalism and commitment to our communities,’’ he said.
‘’Pauline has led the organisation through significant challenges and opportunities, including flood recovery, major projects and important organisational reforms, and leaves a strong legacy for Campaspe Shire.’’
Mr Niemann will start later this month.
