Those were the words of Year 12 student Jessie Ashcroft, whose dream of studying at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music is finally becoming a reality.
After years of hard work and dedication, Jessie has received an early offer to study a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Conservatorium.
“I was very, very happy and relieved because this is all I've been dreaming about for a really long time now,” Jessie said.
“It's great to finally go from telling people ‘I want to go to the conservatory next year’ to being able to say that ‘I'm actually going.’
“It's really, really wonderful.”
Jessie said she spent six months preparing for the audition, performing pieces by German composer Paul Hindemith and Fantasy for flute by George Hugh.
She participated in the Melbourne Youth Orchestra summer school program earlier this year, which gave her the opportunity to audition early.
Jessie’s early study offer follows another successful year of competing, taking out the state titles at the Victorian State Solo & Ensemble Championships in Melbourne last month.
This was her third time placing first in the Open Flute and Open Woodwind Champion of Champions sections.
She also placed second in the Junior Flute and Open Australian Composer categories.
With her Year 12 studies now reaching an end, Jessie will head to Melbourne in February to begin her Bachelor of Music (Performance) and The Courier wishes her all the best.
