Plans to honour Peter
There is a pleasing response to the planned testimonial to Kyabram stalwart Peter Nelson.
The big night is planned for Saturday, August 22, and will be one of, if not the first, function to be held in the revamped Wilf Cox Complex, which is nearing completion.

Undercover area needed at airport
A local flight instructor is campaigning Greater Shepparton City Council to seek federal funding to build an undercover patient transfer shelter at Shepparton airport.
Peter Blake, a long-time aero club member, flight instructor and Shepparton Airport User Group member, said some patients transferred by Air Ambulance Victoria were exposed to rain, wind and supreme heat.
Fight to save school
The fight is on to keep the Conargo school open.
The NSW Department of Education is considering placing the school into recess due to low numbers of students.
Cases of schools placed into recess are reviewed every two years and the Conargo community is now rallying to get the numbers to ensure the school’s future.
New event for ute muster
The iconic Deni Ute Muster has a new event this year, which will extend the celebrations to almost a week.
A free community event planned for the Tuesday will be held in the town’s central business district, alive and kick off the celebrations.
It is being dubbed the ‘Open Streets Spirit of the Muster Streets Festival’ and is designed to bring locals, visitors, business and community groups together to create a welcoming atmosphere that showcases the best of Deniliquin and the Edward River region.
Award-winning Australian singer-songwriter Amber Lawrence will headline the live music aspect of Open Streets Festival.
Cull protested
A rumoured kangaroo cull at the Benalla Golf Club drew a huge reaction from locals.
Protest groups were formed and the Beechworth Wildlife Stays initiated a protest at the golf club.
But the golf club then released a statement confirming that no kangaroo harvest would take place and the club was seeking further advice from relevant stakeholders and experts.
