Vic Nationals deputy leader to retire

She confirmed the reports via social media on Tuesday night while tweeting a news article about her retirement.

"The perfect irony of having a toddler screaming 'mummy, cuddles now!!!' from her cot, while this breaks 12 hours before i had hoped and my phone goes nuts. #springst," Ms Ryan wrote.

In 2014, she became the first woman to hold a leadership position in the National Party and won with almost 65 per cent of the vote. 

She is married to former Australian Labor Party City of Yarra Councillor Simon Huggins, with whom she has a daughter.
