Man dies as police tasering fails to stop injuries

About an hour later police deployed a taser in an attempt to prevent the man  harming himself. 

An officer injured a hand trying to disarm the man, NT Police said. 

The man's wife was present.

Officers provided first aid and paramedics treated the man but he died at the scene.

A crime scene has been declared and the street closed.

Investigations continue and the incident is being treated as a death in custody.
