GVL chief executive Kevin Preece said it was a "sad time" for those relying on their library for goods and services — including books, DVDs, Internet access and social connections.
But Mr Preece said it was the perfect time to learn about what libraries do online.
“We have a great range of free eBooks (electronic books), eAudiobooks and eMagazines available for adults and kids,” he said.
“People can join online and get access straight away.
“We also offer video streaming of movies and documentaries through our Kanopy streaming service; why pay for Netflix?”
Mr Preece said kids would not miss out on the library’s online services either.
“Watch children’s stories via StoryBox Library and child-friendly video with Kanopy Kids or learn coding with Busy Code — these will help keep the kids entertained at home,” he said.
“Get online and learn a language, train up on your computer skills or do some family research with Ancestry.com — all free with your library membership.
“And you can still browse our collection and place holds on your usual library favourites online — books, DVDs, magazines.
“Our staff will contact you when holds are ready and arrange a pick-up time and place if possible.
“We will re-open our libraries as soon as we can.
“In the meantime, let’s all stay home and get to know the library — online."
Any items currently on loan are not due back until May 13 and book chutes are still open if you want to drop books off.
