Cobram Harness Racing is counting down to its Community Pink Ladies Day on May 26.
In support of the McGrath Foundation, the club is hoping to turn the grounds into a sea of pink, starting with a candle-lighting ceremony and the release of pink helium-filled balloons at noon, followed by the National Anthem performed by Cobram Secondary College student Freyja Black.
Cobram Secondary College’s jazz band will also entertain patrons during the afternoon.
There will be plenty of action on and off the track to appeal to all age groups.
Judging of Lady of the Day and Hat of the Day will be a highlight, along with lucky draws and a free entry into a sweep on the Paul Roberts Jewellers Invitation Lady Drivers Pace.
The cricketers’ sulky relay will provide interest and plenty of excitement for supporters, while the big super slide and the mechanical bull will keep the younger generation entertained.
All adults will receive a free ticket into a lucky draw for five nights’ accommodation at Ashmore Palms Holiday Village, Queensland.
Trophies for all races have been sponsored by Cobram-Barooga women’s groups and service clubs — the feature event being the Paul Roberts Jewellers Invitation Lady Drivers Pace.
Female drivers will wear black arm bands in memory of one of their own, Margaret Davies, who was a pioneer in the fight for women to obtain a licence to drive.
The club also appreciates the support from local businesses, providing major awards for Xerri Evans Pink Ribbon Lady Drivers Aggregate, Babcon Plant Hire Leading Trainer of the Day and Crawfords Earthworks and Civil Construction Top Female Driver of the Day, along with Barooga Vineyard, Monichino Wines and Kensal Wines for their generous contribution.
This will be a great day not to be missed; there will be something for everyone and the Strathmerton Lions will be cooking up a storm in the kiosk to suit all tastebuds.
Come along and show your support for community members fighting breast cancer.
