SOMETIMES THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS PUT YOUR SHOES ON AND HEAD OUT THE DOOR.
That’s what I’ve discovered, anyway.
Although, putting the shoes on can sometimes be a challenge after a big day.
However, I’ve realised lately, that going for a walk isn’t about counting steps, chasing a fitness goal or trying to beat a personal best.
It is simply about getting outside.
A walk can be as short or as long as you like.
Around the block, through a local park, or somewhere new you haven’t explored before.
And you don’t need any special equipment. Just a comfortable pair of shoes and a little bit of time.
Even better, take your partner or a friend along with you.
Walking side by side gives you a chance to have a proper chat without the distractions of everyday life.
You can talk about your day, have a laugh, solve a few of the world’s problems or simply enjoy each other’s company.
Sometimes, you don’t even need to talk much at all.
There is something about getting outside and moving that can make you feel a little better, especially after a long day.
And it doesn’t have to become another thing on the to-do list.
If you have 20 minutes, go for 20 minutes.
If you have an hour, go for an hour.
If you only make it around the block before deciding you’ve had enough, that’s okay too.
The important thing is that you got out the door.
So put the shoes on, grab someone you enjoy spending time with and take a walk.
You might be surprised how much better you feel when you get home.
