FOR HARVEY NORMAN SHEPPARTON, BEING A LOCAL BUSINESS MEANS MORE THAN SERVING CUSTOMERS FROM BEHIND THE COUNTER.
As a locally owned and operated franchise group, the business has spent decades building strong connections across the Goulburn Valley, supporting the organisations, clubs, schools and community groups that help make the region a great place to live.
Store manager Glenn Kluckow said the business benefited from being part of a nationally recognised brand, while still having the freedom to maintain a strong local focus.
“We’ve got the national buying power of a major brand, but what matters most to us is bringing that local aspect to everything we do,” Glenn said.
“We’re Harvey Norman Shepparton, and supporting our community is at the heart of who we are.”
Over the years, Harvey Norman Shepparton has supported organisations including the Shepparton Gators, Shepparton Bears, Foodshare, Guthrie Street Primary School and the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project.
Support has included contributions to fundraising efforts, local events and community initiatives, as well as practical assistance where needed.
“We’ve always believed that if we’re part of a community, we should contribute to it,” Glenn said.
“There are so many organisations doing great things locally, and if we can help them keep doing that, then we’re happy to be involved.”
That local approach also extends to the way the business operates, with local tradespeople, suppliers and service providers engaged wherever possible.
From building and installation work through to other business services, the team understands the importance of keeping investment within the region.
“If we can use a local business, we will,” Glenn said.
“It’s about supporting each other and helping keep the local economy moving.”
For Glenn and the team, those relationships have also helped Harvey Norman Shepparton become a familiar part of the community, with generations of families shopping with the business.
“We’ve had generations of families shop with us, and that means a lot,” he said.
“People know our team, they come back to us and they know that we’re local.”
While retail remains at the heart of the business, its connection to the community is something Harvey Norman Shepparton is proud to carry forward.
“We want to see Shepparton and the wider Goulburn Valley continue to grow,” Glenn said.
