And for principal Jo Paton, Education Week is an opportunity to shine a light on the everyday learning that makes the school special.
“We’re proud to share the engaging and supportive environment our students experience,” Ms Paton said.
To celebrate this year’s Education Week theme, the school is hosting a special afternoon for students to participate in a range of activities reflecting the rich learning culture of the school.
Ms Paton says collaboration and peer support are important parts of Strathmerton’s routine.
“Our grade 5 and 6 students will help organise and lead the activities,” she said.
On Friday, May 29, a strong sense of community spirit will be on display with the wider school community encouraged to join the celebrations.
“Opening our doors allows our community to see the pride and connection that define our school,” Ms Paton said.
Students are excited to highlight the numerous dynamic opportunities available, alongside the engaging learning culture the school has built together.
Through outdoor play and hut building activities to creative art and STEM challenges, students are itching to share their knowledge with visitors.
“These activities give families a real snapshot of the vibrant and joyful learning culture we’ve built together,” Ms Paton said.
Recently, Strathmerton Primary has been strengthening its safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment, with the successful implementation of School-Wide Positive Behaviour Supports receiving the Silver Award last year.
Diverse student interests are also strengthened through the school’s ability to deliver a wide range of opportunities.
“Many of our senior students participate in the Victorian High-Ability Program … others attend the John Monash Science School,” Ms Paton said.
“There’s also opportunities to shine under lights both on and off the field, through sporting events or the annual whole-school production.”
All because daily life at Strathmerton Primary School is centred on supporting students and filled through connection, opportunity and belonging.
