SA's Weatherald hits ton against Victoria

Australia's Test revelation Boland took 4-41 from 20 overs - his victims included the prized scalps of Test teammates Travis Head for a second-ball duck and Alex Carey (11).

After SA won the toss, Boland made two rapid strikes just before lunch when dismissing Jake Carder (31) and Head in the space of three balls to leave the Redbacks wobbling at 3-77.

But Weatherald and Drew, who posted a maiden first-class half-century in just his second game at the level, then put on 153 runs for the fourth wicket.

The partnership was broken about an hour before stumps by Boland, who ended Weatherald's 208-ball knock when the lefthander got a leading edge to a legside ball and was caught at cover.

Weatherald's eighth first-class ton featured 10 fours and two sixes and came after he lost three teammates early.

Victorian fast bowler Mitchell Perry (1-47) removed Henry Hunry (nine) in the sixth over.

Hunt's outside edge was taken by wicketkeeper Sam Harper - diving in front of his first slip to get his right glove to the ball, which then bobbled up and into both hands.

Weatherald and first-drop Carder then put on 64 runs before Boland's double-strike some 15 minutes before lunch.

The quick trapped Carder lbw with a delivery which seamed into the lefthander.

And two balls later, Boland produced a near replica: another seamer moved sharply into Head and struck the Redbacks skipper on the pads and he was also out lbw.
