As day two of the Mundi Mundi Bash kicks off on the stunning burnt orange Mundi Mundi Plains, half an hour west of Broken Hill, many are seasoned road warriors with a love of music.
Mum Laura Mundie was at the bash with her two daughters, Olivia, 9, and Ella, 6, and said bringing kids was not an impossible task, but you need to be organised.
"There seems to be a lot of families here, there's a lot of kids rolling around," she told AAP.
Laura, who travelled from the Victorian border with friends Rick and Rebecca Coote also visited the Menindee Lakes on their way, and said many people enjoy the stopovers as much as the event itself.
"This was part of the journey for us," Laura said.
"There's a few people and this is the end of their journey - they've been up north and are coming back," added Rebecca.
The festival also held the charity Mundi Undi Fun Run - raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
The foot race saw hundreds of festival goers in elaborate costumes, including a group of men in polyester nun outfits, cradling lap dogs as they sloped across the finish line.
Another group of wore pink mullet wigs and "budgie smugglers" - twiggy birds nests positioned over their private parts.
Ryan and Karen Muttall, dressed in the pink wigs, told AAP they had driven from the Mornington Peninsula to the bash after hearing about it on Facebook.
"It's been fantastic," Ryan said, adding he had particularly loved Ash Grunwald's Thursday night set.
"We got set up with chairs and eskies, it was good," Karen said,
"Everyone's here just to have fun. Not anything else."
A new trend emerged at the dog-friendly festival on Friday, too, with almost every four-legged friend on the field donning a pair of strap-on shoes.
Leah and Clinton Barry and their dogs Luna, a staffy, and Dover, a mini fox terrier, told AAP they'd picked up some shoes for their pooches after little Dover was spiked with a prickle in the camp site.
The pair from the Gold Coast are four weeks into a caravanning trip around Australia, and have been making fast friends at the festival, staying up into the early hours partying with other campers on site.
"(As we travel) we're trying to do everything with the dogs and make sure it's as dog friendly as we can," Clinton said.
On Friday, the lineup includes Kiwi singer-songwriter and former Noiseworks frontman Jon Stevens, Sarah McLeod, The Black Sorrows, and a performance of the Rolling Stones Review from Aussie rock veterans Tex Perkins, Tim Rogers and Adalita.
The Mundi Mundi Bash continues on Saturday, with performances from Jimmy Barnes, Daryl Braithwaite, Kasey Chambers and Bachelor Girl.
