There were plenty of smiles and full stomachs at Cobram’s Community House on Friday, as a loyal group of people flocked to first community lunch of the year.

Cobram Community House community and IT officer Liz Diamond was pleased as to how far it has come, three years after she started the initiative.
“We’ve got a good team, we cook Thursday afternoons - it works well,” she said.
Mrs Diamond started the program because she felt there was a need for people in the community to connect with one another.
“There were a lot of older people in the community who weren’t getting out, especially disadvantaged and people living with disabilities,” she said.
“It’s a place to have a chat.”
A group of four to six people make the delicious meals for the 20 to 30 guests each month, with the vegetables, breads and stocks donated by local food suppliers Moira FoodShare, Bakers Delights Cobram and Kelly Bros Vegetables in Burramine.
A fragrant curry and a cheesy eggplant dish were the choices for this lunch, with the menu determined by which vegetables were bountiful and in season.
“Kelly Bros will donate the vegetables, then we decide what to cook,” Mrs Diamond said.
The lunch will run on the first Friday of each month this year.
