Spectators gathered to watch a very competitive game of bowling between team Glenn and team Taylor.
Young brothers Jake and Mason Glenn were beyond excited to find themselves in the final after their last game, and even more excited to find they would be taking on Niels Hilton and Craig Taylor - current runner-up and Club Singles champions, respectively.
Jake, leading, was superb, putting down consistently brilliant bowls and putting the pressure on club president Hilton right from the start.
Bowling well himself and putting in some important shots when required, Hilton and Taylor commented that the scorecard did not reflect the brilliant bowling from opposition skipper Mason.
Team Taylor had a 7-1 jump on the Glenn brothers early.
But the youngsters had a fierce determination, and with mum Melissa and brother Callan watching on with many others, they showed they were there with a purpose and suddenly the score was 10-all.
Team Taylor felt the pressure, and spectators were relishing in the quality of bowls and Jake and Mason’s apparent cool, collected presence.
After the 17th of 18 ends, Taylor and Hilton were just in front at 14-15.
On the last end, Jake placed three perfect bowls in the head.
Hilton finally lobbed a cracker on the jack after two attempts, which had Taylor very worried.
He had to protect it while Mason attempted to move it, or the jack, slightly to grab a possible three shots and the win.
The 11 year-old skipper gave it his all, and only missing by millimetres.
Taylor and Hilton managed to hold on to their ‘one’ to take the win in what was an extremely intense finish.
The RSL Bowling Club members are extremely proud of Jake and Mason’s exceptional skill, fearlessness and sportsmanship, and look forward to what they will bring to the upcoming Club Triples Championship, Presidents Handicap, and the 2026-27 pennant season.
