The outcome has left the Tigers locked in seventh spot and tied equal sixth with Congupna on 36 points with four round left in the 2023 season.
Cobram, leading by 11 points at half time of the round 16 contest, squandered a perfect opportunity to open up a gap on the Road at Scott Oval as the visitors piled on five goals to one after the main break.
Nathan Hartley was a tireless contributor and was judged best-afield, while teammates Harry Beasley, Ryan Mele, Luca Allen, Sam Beasley and Hugh Hyde all performed strongly in the 6.6. (42) to 8.8 (56) defeat.
The opening term was an even arm-wrestle and one that saw Congupna lead by three points, but had it ripped away as Cobram had the rub of the green in the second term.

The Tigers kicked 3.3 to hold an 11-point buffer at half-time, then it was The Road’s turn to swing back the tides and assume the lead by the narrowest of margins with one quarter remaining.
Congupna maintained its composure in the last term and posted two goals to Cobram’s two behinds - in a result that sees Congupna leapfrog the Tigers on percentage and keeps Kevin O’Donoghue’s outfit ahead with a game in hand.
Air time: Cobram's under-18s talent Matt Ward flies for the ball.
“It was an eight-point game, it was really important for us and the same for them ― and that’s how the game played,” O’Donoghue said.
“It was a really tough, hard-fought contest.
“Some of those wins like that are something that you look for now and then, especially at this time of year.”

Barooga sat out at the weekend due to the bye but returns to action this weekend with a home match against Deniliquin.
It is a must-win match for Luke Jarjoura and his outfit if they are to feature in the finals series.
Cobram has the difficult task of heading to Mulwala to take on the reigning premier in a rematch of last year’s grand final.
Meanwhile, Cobram’s A-grade side suffered a 47-21 defeat to Congupna.
