The 77-point margin in favour of the Tigers was almost as far as you could get from the last time Cobram met Tongala, when the visiting Blues snuck away with a 15-point pelt at Scott Reserve in round six.
This time, Cobram wasted no time or chances, with Hugh Hyde booting the first of Cobram’s seven first-term goals.
Hyde was helped along by efforts from Tyron Baden and Ryan Mele, leading to a 0-47 scoreline at the first break.
Despite a third-term major from Tonny’s Cameron Ilett, the Tigers continued to pile on the pain into the final term, conceding just a further two majors to the hosts.
Tonny didn’t throw in the towel, scrapping in the wet conditions to get the Sherrin through the sticks well into the final term.
But it wasn’t enough to turn the tide of Luca Orsida’s seniors debut and Ryan Mele’s 150th club game with Cobram.
The final siren ended an otherwise dominant Cobram performance on 3.4 (22) to 15.9 (99).
• Barooga was always in for a challenge when it travelled to The Road to take on an undefeated Congupna.
Despite heavy lifting in front of goal from the Hawks’ James Hooper and Toby Parish, with a major each, Congupna boosted its percentage with another victory, 2.3 (15) to 27.13 (175).
In the reserves action, Cobram managed to overcome a first-term deficit to consolidate its position at the top of the ladder with a 3.4 (22) to 13.8 (86) walloping of Tongala, thanks in large part to some serious goal-booting nous from Reeve Verhoeven (six majors).
A major from Barooga’s Will Trenery provided the only real highlight for the Hawks’ reserves as they fell by 63 points to a classy Congupna outfit 1.3 (9) to 11.6 (72).
Looking ahead, Cobram hosts Nathalia this weekend at Scott Oval, while Barooga will travel south to take on Numurkah.
