A dominant season which saw all senior football and netball teams, plus one under-15s netball team, making it into the finals' series, Strathmerton Football Netball Club kicked off its finals series in Tungamah and Katandra.
Football:
Thirds vs Deniliquin
Lost: 7.7 49–17.13 115
The Dogs made the trip over to Tungamah looking to try and get the win.
At it from the first bounce, the team worked tirelessly all day but were ultimately outclassed, falling by 11 goals at the final siren.
Fourths vs Jerilderie
Won: 10.6 66–5.2 32
The fourths hit the wet, crisp Tungamah ground for finals football, both excited and nervous for the challenge.
After a rough start, the Dogs consolidated to take a multiple-goal lead into the first break.
Jack Daniel and Jackson Cooper led from the front, in particular Jack who kicked five goals in a match-winning performance.
A solid all-round team performance resulted in a 34-point win when the final siren sounded.
The fourths are next in action in two weeks.
Best players: Nash Bayne, RJ, Jack Daniel, Jackson Cooper, Jed Bayne, Mykel Argus and Ashtyn Speechly.
Special mention: Tamika the runner.
Netball
A-grade vs Tocumwal
Won 36-29
A-grade knew they would have to be at the top of their game to defeat Tocumwal.
A competitive first half resulted in end-to-end netball, with Tocumwal taking a three-goal lead into the main break.
The third quarter was where A-grade showed its class with a nine-goal turnaround resulting in a six-goal lead at three-quarter time.
This lead was consolidated in the last quarter with the Dogs running out seven-goal winners on the day.
C-grade vs Mathoura
Lost 34-41
C-grade left everything on the court under hot conditions against a strong Mathoura side.
Frequent rotations throughout the first half led to the Dogs having a one-goal lead into the main break.
Unfortunately, Mathoura would manage to turn the tide of the match and would run out seven-goal winners on the day.
Much can be gained from the performance as they look to the new season.
C-Reserve vs Katamatite
Won 34-21
Playing under sweltering conditions did not sway C-Reserve, who took the victory over Katamatite by 13 goals.
Teamwork was the real highlight, with every player playing their role like they should.
Liv Van Every and Amy Duhring, as always, were the epitome of excellence on the court.
Jodi Brooks and Steph Berndt also contributed immensely to the win.
Despite being injured, Hannah Routledge, was instrumental both on and off the court.
All in all, the game was a testament to the hard work and grit of the C-Reserve team.
Under-15s vs Tocumwal
Lost 27-29
Despite everyone playing at 110 per cent and giving it their all, the under-15s Bulldogs went down in a heartbreaking 27-29 loss against Tocumwal.
Jess, Ella, Lys and Brylie defended strongly all day, coming away with many intercepts.
Matilda’s movement and holding was spot on, setting up Lexi to shoot, who was on-point from the start.
In one of their best performances for the year the ladies have much to look forward to next season.
