Greater Shepparton City Council, through Aquamoves, is inviting the community to participate between September 1 (from 11am) through to September 21 at Western Park, next to Aquamoves on Tom Collins Drive, Shepparton.
Million Moves encourages people of all ages and abilities to find simple ways to move more, with everyone welcome to attend the launch, enjoy a free Tai Chi session and hear more about the program.
Registered Million Moves participants can also receive a free coffee by showing their registration.
One minute of movement equals one move and every move recorded will contribute to the Million Moves total.
There are also prizes to be won, as participants encouraged to walk, swim, exercise at home, join a class or take part in the free local activities being delivered through Aquamoves, Shepparton Sports Stadium and Activities in the Park.
The local activity program includes:

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said the goal was to work towards one million moves as a team while helping people build healthier habits.
“One minute of movement equals one move. The challenge encourages people to start small, find a way of moving they enjoy and build habits that continue beyond the 21 days,” he said.
“Regular movement supports physical and mental wellbeing and can help reduce the risk of chronic disease. You do not have to be an athlete or join a gym. Walking, swimming, dancing, gardening or joining a local class all count.
“Being selected to host the national launch gives Greater Shepparton an exciting opportunity to lead the challenge and get our community moving together.”
AUSactive CEO Ken Griffin said Million Moves removes some of the common barriers to becoming more active.
“Australia can’t afford to stand still,” said Griffin.
“Million Moves removes the cost and the complexity. Now we need Australia to join us.
“Grab your nan, kids, mates, workmates - even the dog. You don’t need to run a marathon. Walk. Run. Swim. Lift. Dance. Zumba. Just move.”
