The 13-year-old Year 7 student at Cobram Anglican Grammar School has earned a spot on the starting line in the 3km race at the upcoming Australia All Schools Cross Country Championships in Ballarat.
Brown claimed his place recently at the state championships in Bundoora, where he crossed the line in third place out of a pool of 140 competitors in his age group from across the state.
He finished with a blistering time of 9.55 minutes.
Looking ahead to nationals, Brown is aiming to get into the top 10 in his age group.
Then, after that, he’s got a few goals in mind.

“I’m hoping to eventually qualify for the world champs or the Olympics, as I get older. Maybe Brisbane, or the next one after that,” Brown, who has dedicated at least the last six months to training, said.
It’s a rigorous routine featuring running five days a week, with two days of lifting weights and plyometrics, or jump training, to build speed.
Brown’s older brother, Sam, also competed at states, finishing 48th in his age group after running the 4km in 14.24 minutes.
