AFL Goulburn Murray has granted a salary cap increase for clubs of two leagues in the region, with the Murray Football League and Goulburn Valley League’s players potentially set to enjoy an added bonus for remaining at their respective clubs.
The MFL and GVL entered season 2025 with a salary cap of $130,000 and $105,000 respectively, however following requests to AFLGM for adjustments, the overarching executive body of Goulburn Murray football permitted an increase in room.
The leagues put forward individual proposals for consideration of the AFL Victoria Community Club Sustainability Advisory Group (CCSAG), who review and confirm Allowable Player Payments (APP) for all metro leagues and country regions.
MFL clubs have been granted afforded a further $5000 to their spending allowance, with the 2026 salary cap sitting at $110,000.
GVL clubs now have $137,500 to spend on footballing talent, with the upgrade in coin allowing the competition to remain the highest cap in the state, equal with the Ovens and Murray League, which has also increased from $130,000 for 2026.
The Kyabram District League’s salary cap of $75,000 remains unbudging in 2026, as the league was comfortable to make no change to the current limit set.
