The Diggers met the Deniliquin Bowling Club in Tuesday’s grand final in Rochester.
Played in front of a large and appreciative group of supporters from both clubs, the Diggers triumphed by 16 shots overall.
Each club had a rink win each.
The final score - 45 to 29 - did not reflect the tense and absorbing battle, with the Bowling Club, down early, fighting their way back into the contest to reduce the overall margin to just six shots with 10 ends remaining.
However, the rink led by Neville Austin grabbed a match high six late in the game and finished full of running to put the final result beyond doubt.
Congratulations to both clubs on their respective seasons to be the only local sides to make a grand final across the grades.
A notable feature of the game was the strong games played by opposing players Jim Jennings from the Diggers and Brenda Leetham from the Deniliquin Bowling Club.
Both remarkable sportspeople in their 90s, they are still playing great bowls and both clubs are so proud of their efforts and contributions to the game.
For Deniliquin Bowling Club, Alan Hardcastle (skip), John Murray, Joy McArthur and Tony King fought hard, as they have done all year, and finally claimed a 17 to 14 victory.
The other rink had a final to forget, however.
They were never in the hunt against a very strong opposition, and finally succumbed 12-31.
This gave Deni RSL a well-deserved victory, 45 shots to 29.
