Pretty good football conditions at Katamatite saw a really even contest in the first quarter. We were lucky to be one point up, with Katty missing gettable shots on goal.
The second quarter saw us start to get on top in the middle of the ground through Aubrey Coote and Jake Ellery.
A strong second half, highlighted by three goals in the third quarter by Darcy Robinson, saw us run out 66-point winners.
Best players: A.Coote, D.Robinson, B.Palmer, T.Collyer, N.Hoban and A.Crestani.
Reserves: Strathmerton 12.13 (85) d Katamatite 1.4 (10)
Joel Mackenzie kicked four goals as the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers by 75 points.
Best players: A. Wood, J. Mackenzie, C. Wilson, H. Parsons, J. Henderson, D. Allen.
Thirds: Strathmerton 12.11 (83) d Katamatitte 5.2 (32)
A cold morning saw us have our first win.
From the warm-up you could sense the boys were ready for a good contest. Their hunger to hunt the footy from the first bounce was outstanding. Mitch O’Brien must have brought his own footy as it followed him around all day and big Cody Harris-Cunningham proved to be a great link in the forward line, finishing with six majors.
Harry Barnes continued his excellent form for the year in the ruck, giving the mids first use, Tom Payne had his work-rate up, giving great pressure on the loose footy and Jackson Koopman showed he was a classy footballer in the making.
It was a great effort by the boys, looking to carry this form into Picola next week.
Fourths: Strathmerton 11.5 (71) d Katamatite 2.1 (13)
The young Bullpups got the day off to a great start. Determined to play well for their mate ‘Holty’, they were up and about all day.

Netball
A-grade: Strathmerton 36 d Katamatite 22
A-grade had a slow start against Katty. There were no easy passes, we had to fight for every ball, trailing the home team by one goal at quarter time.
In the second quarter we went back to basics and started to play our own game a little, which allowed us to take the lead at half time.
A big third quarter opened the game up but it was still hard going, as Katty continued to come at us. Kara O’Sullivan, Jemma Ryan and Vanessa Ward were among the best, working tirelessly for four quarters.
A 14-goal victory came as a relief and was a credit to our girls, who were able to keep plugging away even though it wasn’t ‘pretty’ netball.
B-grade: Strathmerton 58 d Katamatite 22
With a few outs this week we were able to trial new combinations and in doing so, prove just how versatile we are as a team.
Ash’s voice, positivity and constant support was heard all around the Rec Reserve; that, coupled with her strong on court game, earned her the Future Fitness 24/7 $50 cash award.
Hope walked away with a Railway Hotel voucher for playing such a strong defensive game and putting Katty attackers under all kinds of pressure.
Kase contributed to that pressure and was once again pivotal in providing drive through the midcourt, earning herself a Mars Bar for her efforts.
Big thanks to Alina for helping out on the bench and for coming on so seamlessly during the last quarter, and to Lise and Kez for stepping into Kell’s shoes while she was away. Looking forward to having everyone back this week as we take on Picola.

A great game and win, all the girls played amazing!
The defensive pressure from Kate O’Brien and Beth Homan didn’t let up all four quarters. The mid-court girls kept the pressure up and attacked the ball, and the shooters moved well in the ring together.
A great team effort from all the girls!
Awards: Mailbox Cafe - Amy O’Brien. Supreme Meats - Kim Montgomery
C-Reserve: Strathmerton 24 lt Katamatite 30
Cracking effort by the girls on Saturday. We started strong and put up a convincing fight, but unfortunately fell short.
Shiloh Coghill scored best-on (Yeti stubby holder) for a strong half in WD, while Josie Potter and Tanika Davis took home the Supreme Meats and Mailbox Cafe awards for their consistency in defence.
Ball week! Best-on was shared by our beloved coaches Steph Berndt and Amy Duhring — one for dancing the house down and the other for a ripping spray tan. Everyone else scored headaches. Til next week!
Under-17s: Strathmerton 48 d Katamatite 10
The girls bounced back this week after two tough losses. We gave our shooters plenty of opportunities and Maddi Shannon and Cait Brooks were able to deliver for the team.
We had a lot more voice this week, which helped put on the pressure in defence, with Ash Dyson, Eva Laidlaw and Amy Wyatt getting plenty of turnovers.
We also had Giselle Wren play her first game in the 17s and she fitted in so well. Alina Corso and Taylar Knight fed well and their decision-making was outstanding. Great team game from the girls.
Awards: Crestani Concrete Cash - Madi Knight. Wingates Sports - Eva Laidlaw. Strathy Canteen - Ash Dyson
Under-15s: Strathmerton 25 d Katamatite 16
Our 15s won their first match of the 2023 season against Katamatite and we are so proud of the whole team!
We came out firing and put together four solid quarters. The girls got around each other and our teamwork was fantastic!
Giselle Wren was strong in defence and picked up the $10 Crestani Concreting award. Hayley McGill played a ripper game in the centre court and received the Wingates Sports award.
Jazzmine Safe had a tough first quarter, but showed her determination and ability to adjust her game plan, receiving the Strathy canteen award.
Girls, enjoy the win, and let’s keep working hard at training!
Under-13s: Strathmerton 28 d Katamatite 4
In slippery conditions, the girls played a beautiful game against the Tigers.
It was so fantastic to see what we’re working on at training being implemented into our games and each and every player doing the things that are asked of them. In a whole-team effort, we built momentum with each quarter, eventually finishing with a solid win.
Darcie Carmody took out the canteen award for her amazing effort in defence in the first half then swapping seamlessly to goals in the second.
Havanah Gardner received The Lefty Baker voucher for an excellent game in WA, with solid forward leads and excellent passing.
Well done girls!
Under-11s:
Our mini Bulldogs played a great game against Katty, adjusting to the wet court really well.
We focused on slowing down and throwing shorter passes, and our defensive pressure all over the court was excellent.
Natalie in WA made strong drives into space and Mackenzie was great in defence. Lily shot some great goals then switched to defence and took intercepts while Emma put in second and third efforts like always and played an amazing game in goals and then defence.
Awards: Wingates - Natalie Hibberson. $5 - Mackenzie Arundel. Canteen - Lily Humphreys Spaul. The Lefty Baker - Emma Bourchier.
NetSetGo:
Our littlest Bulldogs braved the cold and wet conditions for their first Saturday game of the year.
Everyone had a go in all three areas of the court — defence, mid court and goals — and our future stars started to shine.
It was so amazing to see them all displaying skills that we’ve been learning at training — there was minimal stepping, great pivoting, leading into space and incredible hands over defence from everyone.
Awards: $5 - Indi Sellman. $5 - Maisie Hill. Mars Bar - Sammie Wren.
