Echuca-Moama cricketer Todd Murphy has made a move in the Big Bash League, signing a one-year deal with the Melbourne Stars.
The off-spinner makes a return to Victoria having spent his past five seasons playing for the Sydney Sixers.
“I’m super excited to be back in Melbourne,” Murphy said on the Stars’ website.
“I feel like getting to play at the MCG is always exciting, so to have that on the horizon this year is awesome, and I’m really keen to get started.”
The Moama Cricket Club product has played 30 Big Bash matches, registering an economy rate of 6.73 per over and a bowling average of 22.14.
Murphy only played for the Sixers twice last season.
His availability for the Stars in BBL|16 could also be impacted, given his commitments in the sport’s other formats.
Murphy was awarded a national contract in March and will be a part of Australia A’s red-ball series against India later this month.
As a result, there is a possibility he is selected for Australia’s Test squad that tours India in January and February next year.
