Out of the eight teams that suited up on Sunday only four progressed through to the second week of post-season action and kept their dreams of silverware alive.
Starting out in the men’s division one and it was a horror end to the season for Roar coach Vince Iannucci and his side.
The Roar were knocked out of finals contention due to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Myrtleford.
Savoy found itself a goal to the good after 14 minutes as Thomas Caplin produced an early strike to shock the Roar.
Though perennial threat Kieran O’Donnell scored in the 42nd minute, the celebrations were short-lived as Caplin made it a first-half double.
Jack Milford then heaped on the hurt moments after half time as his effort found its way into the back of the net for a 3-1 Myrtleford advantage.
Nathan Thomas switched roles and served as a target man for the Roar, but even his 68th minute goal wasn’t enough to draw Iannucci’s men back into the contest.
Division one women’s action saw Cobram fall at the hands of Melrose in a penalty shoot-out.
Alyssa Iannucci opened the scoring inside 15 minutes as her cross-shot found the far corner, but Purples veteran Alicia Torcaso ran through to make it 1-1.
Marlie Noonan hit a blinding free-kick on the stroke of half time to send the Roar into the sheds 2-1 up, but 20 minutes into the second term Caitlin Bishop levelled the pegging.
Torcaso was at the races as she headed home a set piece to complete the comeback, but Iannucci would add another twist to the tale in remarkable fashion.
The rapid attacker nicked the ball off Georgia Taylor during stoppage time, foiling the Melrose keeper’s attempts to waste time and sending the game into extra time.
However, Cobram would come up short in the spot kick duel, missing three of its penalties in the shoot-out.

Meanwhile in division two men’s, Roar have progressed through to the second week of finals.
Cobram met Wangaratta in a grudge match where Hunter Goodin’s goal was the only separating factor between the sides.
A fiery encounter, red cards were dished out to Roar’s Luke Goodin and Devils’ Oliver Poidamani in the 1-0 victory, meaning a shuffling of the pack will be required heading into the semi final.
Cobram’s division three men have pencilled in a semi final bout against Wodonga Diamonds after prevailing against Albury City.
Ethan Baxa scored a brace for the Roar while Rocky Perri also struck home in the 3-1 win.
Rolling through the junior divisions, Cobram’s under-16 boys sealed a 4-0 win over Albury Hotspurs, the under-13s lost out 5-3 to Boomers and under-12s toppled St Pats 2-1.
Lastly, the Roar’s over-35s met a 4-0 fate against a victorious Wodonga Diamonds, while Cobram’s under-14 girls move through to the semis after the weekend’s bye.
