Passionate supporter of the Cobram Tigers, Gerard McGrath has never lost the smile from his face after bearing witness to the club’s outstanding success in 2025, when it won three out of four premierships in the Murray Football Netball League grand finals.

When much of the excitement had died down, Gerard’s thoughts continually returned to that day.
“It was definitely a one in a million result for our club and like many other supporters I just couldn’t get over what we had achieved,” said Gerard.
With this in mind, Gerard decided to put pen to paper with a poem about this totally amazing sporting feat.
“WHEN COBRAM CAME TO PLAY” By Gerard McGrath
Verse 1
Winning their way to Grand Final day in September 2025
Three footy teams, premiership dreams, were still alive.
Off to Moama on a cold and windy day
We all hoped our boys had come to play.
Verse 2
The Fourths are on at nine against Deni,
A team they had beaten in the second semi.
We win by 21, a great start to the day.
Let’s hope that the others, have come here to play!
Verse 3
The thirds are next, playing Moama in their home town.
Play well boys and you can bring the ‘mowers’ down.
We win by six, another result our way.
That’s two out of three, that have come here to play.
Verse 4
While the seconds are on, our firsts warm up,
Focussing on bringing home that Premiership Cup,
And concentrating on what the coach has to say,
“Let us let Congupna know, that you have come here to play.”
Verse 5
Our firsts are on and at quarter time we are down by six,
Great effort boys, we are now right in the mix!
Keep working hard and you just might hold sway,
Congupna now know, you have come here to play.
Verse 6
A second quarter blitz sees us up by 25,
Old timers recall, those great years of 1998... and 1995
“That’s history boys… it is in the zone that you have to stay,
reminding Congupna, that you have come here to play!”
Verse 7
We hold firm in the third and lead by 20 into the last
We hope we can forget those heartaches of the past
One quarter to go boys, put yourselves into the coming fray
So stick together and show Congupna that you are still here to play
Verse 8
One minute to go and our two point lead is giving us a scare
We pray that it is not going to be, another nightmare!
The siren goes, the drought is over, all is ok!
Thank you boys for coming here to play.
Verse 9
In years to come, we will all remember,
That great day on the 20th of September
Three premierships came home to Cobram that day
When all our boys from Cobram came to play!
