It is actively recruiting players 14 years old and younger to bolster the enthusiastic players already registered for the Picola League season ahead.
With opportunities for fourths (under-14s) and fifths (under-11s) games, it’s a chance for young people around the district to hone their skills and be part of the Redeyes team culture.
Young players at Blighty will be guided by fifths coach Michael Norman or fourths coach Jim Macdonald.
“I coach junior football as my experience and learnings can make a difference in fast tracking their development,” Norman said.
“Our program is open to anyone - skilled or unskilled.
“They will get all resources possible to help develop their football skills and most importantly life skills.
“We have a strong culture where it’s not all about winning it’s making sure everyone is having fun and continue to strive to do their best.”
Macdonald volunteered to coach the fourths when his own children laced up the boots for Blighty, and he’s been leading the training group for two years now.
“I really enjoy seeing the development of the kids and to see them grow in confidence.
“What makes our junior program different to other clubs is Blighty offers everyone a go.
“Nathan Kelly and I try to be approachable to help all players feel comfortable in the team.”
Blighty pride themselves on providing an inclusive culture, and on developing junior footballers with assistance from senior footballers.
But it’s not all about developing just football skills.
“They develop life skills, as a football club is a great place to meet new players, develop friendships and gain confidence to whatever task that may involve,” Norman said.
“Any kid who has never played before, we start with the basics kicking and handball and slowly show them the way the game is played,” Macdonald added.
“Come out. You will be surprised how much fun you have with the club,” he continued.
