In a club first, the Tigers are putting out a call for expressions of interest to enable them to start recruitment for their under-11s and under-15s girls’ cricket outfits.
Club president Manny Artavilla said the club had received many inquiries last year from parents hoping to sign their daughters up to local cricket.
“It’s something a bit new to us, but it’s something we’ll embrace. We have spoken about it for about five years, and never taken that step,” he said.
“I’m a big believer in sport being available for anyone. Why not have a cricket girls’ side up as well, if they want to play?”
The club, last year, had a group of girls come forward and played in the club’s mixed under-13s side.
But the club believes there is enough interest to field two girls’ teams in their own right.
“They don’t need any experience at all; if they just want to play with their friends and learn along the way and have some fun, that’s what we’re about,” Artavilla said.
