Round three of Goulburn Murray Youth Girls League was held with one game on Friday and the following two on Sunday.
After an action-packed opening two rounds of football, round three had a north-against-south theme emerge across the trio of matches.
Shepparton Swans hosted the imposing Echuca United at Princess Park on Sunday afternoon.
Despite only having 13 players at their disposal the Eagles dominated the contest against an 18-player Swans.
Echuca United won the match by 58 points, but it could have and should have been more given the Eagles’ inaccuracy in front of the big sticks.
The final score finished 2.3 (15) to 9.19 (73).
Sunday’s other under-18 match had Shepparton United host Moama.
The game at Deakin Reserve was similarly one-sided as the Magpies strolled to a 47-point victory to sit atop the table.
Barooga travelled to Nathalia on Friday night and made light work of its opposition.
The Hawks won the match by 39 points to make it three wins for clubs native to the Murray River and three defeats to those closest to the Goulburn.
In round three of the senior women’s league, Nathalia found revenge for its junior compatriots on Friday night as the Purples ran over the Hawks on home soil 30-8.
Tatura faced a tough ask in its Sunday clash against Echuca as the Bulldogs fell to the Murray Bombers 99-0.
Rumbalara made it two wins on the trot thanks to a Sunday afternoon feast against Mansfield.
After a sloppy first half, scoring 1.8, Rumbalara coach Shannon Atkinson said his side came to life in the third term.
“We had good pace off the wing and I thought we looked pretty dangerous coming out of the backline kicking it to our wingers (after half-time),” Atkinson said.
“It opened the game up with quick handballs.
“I switched Tammy (Atkinson) from full-back to full-forward and her presence in the forward line was a game changer for us.”
Those fleet of foot wingers were Shadelle Hood and Jamilah Pynor who helped break the game open for Rumba.
The hosts turned their 14-point half-time lead into a dominant nine-goal victory as Rumbalara trounced Mansfield 58-0.
Atkinson said his co-captain Marissa Kerr (tied third in the league's leading goal-kicking with six from three games) had been a shining light for his side this season as she booted four majors against the Eagles.
“(Kerr) is showing really great leadership through training and on game days,” he said.
“The girls get around her and she is starting to use her voice a bit more.”
Atkinson said that was a skill his players needed to work on as he wanted them to use their voice more out on the field as well as straighten up their shots at goal.
Rumbalara travels to take on Tatura this Sunday.
