The funds were also intended to help deliver its milestone 100th Annual Tennis Tournament.
That three-day tournament was held from Saturday, January 3 to Monday, January 6.
Earlier in the year, council awarded a $7000 grant to refurbish the ceiling in the clubhouse hall, with works completed in August 2025.
The upgrade has improved the comfort and usability of the space for club members, players and the wider community.
In addition, at its Finance and Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday, December 10, council awarded the club a $2000 Major Events Grant to support the delivery of the 2026 tournament.
The funding assisted with the purchase of tennis balls, catering and prizes for winners and runners-up across more than 30 events.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said council was proud to support a club with such a strong history and ongoing contribution to the community.
“This funding helps ensure the club’s facilities remain welcoming and fit for purpose, while also supporting the volunteers who work so hard to deliver major events like the annual tennis tournament,” Hearn said.
Hearn said the 100th year of the tournament was a significant milestone for the club and broader community and spoke to the dedication of everyone involved over many decades.
Benalla Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has been located on its current site since 1934 and has a proud history of hosting players at all levels, from grassroots participation through to nationally and internationally recognised competitors.
“Council remains committed to supporting local sporting clubs through grants and partnerships that strengthen community connection, encourage active lifestyles and celebrate Benalla Rural City’s rich sporting heritage,” Hearn said.
