Just shy of 100 players descended on Mooroopna Golf Club to honour Stuart Davidson, a man synonymous with the town and golf club, for a day of sun, smiles and stroke play.
Mooroopna Rotary’s Kelvin Rogash, who organised the day, said Davidson himself would have been proud of the event.
“It was another fantastic day, it’s our fourth annual one that we’ve done now,” he said.
“The weather was beautiful; we had 96 golfers hit off for the day for a shotgun start.
“There were good scores (and) a couple of ordinary ones, but some good hits in there.
“I think Stuey is looking down on us because each year the weather has been fantastic.”

A postcard picture day set the scene for what transpired to be a terrific outing for those in attendance.
The barbecue was running full bore all day, raffle tickets were flying and the putting competition kept players entertained in between holes.
Friday’s top prize, the Stuart Davidson Perpetual Trophy, went to the pairing of Tom Brain and Andrew Pogue (61.25), while Aaron Plant and Sam Wieland (62) claimed second.
Brain had a fantastic collect as he netted the top raffle prize of a 50-inch TV, while a raft of other gifts were handed off to the lucky winners.
“We’ll probably end up making about $11,000 for the day, and that’s not going ahead with things like big auction items or dinner guest speakers,” Rogash said.
“It is a social day and we try and keep it that way.
“Approximately half of the money from it goes to Shepparton Foodshare, because Stuey was into fuel costs and stuff being a fuel supplier.
“We sponsor them to a large degree which we will be again the case this year.”
Rogash was glad to see a great turnout from the Davidson family, who’ve been fierce supporters of the event since its inception.
“They’ve been pleased since day one as to how it went,” he said.
“They look forward to it each year.”
Rogash knows full well of Davidson’s contribution to the Mooroopna community, with the pair joining Rotary at about the same time some 30 years ago.
And so, with a great day of golf to honour a great figure, Rogash paid tribute to Davidson in the event’s wash-up.
“He was big in promoting causes; he actually started up a golf day quite a few years ago which ran for about 10 years,” Rogash said.
“He was a good member of the golf club, he started up quite a few things there.
“He was a good golfer and a good sportsman all round, and was always prepared to help people and help causes.”
