Having previously run two separate seasons, one in autumn and one in spring, the new structure will see one single season played, allowing for a much longer competition.
Commencing on Wednesday, October 22, players will now have the chance to compete in eight games prior to Christmas, before a mid-season break over the new year period, before the season resumes on January 28 for another eight weeks, totalling 16 matches across the season, with a two-week finals series to follow.
The change is designed to allow for more team growth and player development, which is much harder to achieve in a shorter season, while also providing more consistent matches and a more exciting build-up to the finals series for players.
There will be competitions for all players aged between eight and 18 years of age in a mixed competition, with the aim to hold separate male and female competitions if there is enough female participation.
The association has also invested in new uniforms, with all players to receive a pair of shorts, valued at $40, for free when they register, which will match the updated competition singlets.
Registrations will close at midnight on Monday, October 13, with no late registrations accepted. Head to playhq.com and search Cobram Amateur Basketball Association to register.
The association is also on the lookout for more referees and parents to coach the junior teams, with an information and coaching session to be held for interested parents or anybody interested in coaching and refereeing, which will be funded by the association.
Further information on any of the above can be obtained by messaging the Cobram Basketball Association Facebook page, or by getting in touch with president Steven Tomlinson on 0497 711 532.
