North Albury scraped home against bottom side Baranduda and Corowa just fell short against Wodonga Raiders last Saturday. Corowa will travel to North Albury next Saturday in a do-or-die clash.

Last Saturday, chasing 124, Corowa made 120. After crashing to 7-45, the Roos greatly benefitted by captain Jarryd Hatton’s brilliant, one of the season’s best batting performances, with an unbeaten 61.
Benny lost the toss and Raiders decided they wanted a bat first on their home deck.
With Hatts back from his trip across the ditch he and Granty opened the bowling who had the ball seaming early and was troubling the batsmen.
Lizard had a tidy 2/10 off 5 so keeping him in the attack seemed the obvious option. With Derek brought on as first change, his first over was electric. Unfortunately that was not to last long.
His second over he tweaked his quad and was unable to keep bowling seeing Pipes marking his bowling debut for the season. He obviously wanted more than one ball so he started off with a wide.
Bringing on dot ball machine Benny, he and Lizard kept the Raider boys to few runs. Ben bowling 5 overs, 1 for 1!
Raiders kept at the Roos but with once again great death bowling by Hattsy, the Roos felt on top of the game going into afternoon tea.
Benny had Corowa off to a flyer, sadly it didn’t last long into the innings. The Roos had trouble building a partnership and too quickly their top order was gone.
A combination of good bowling from Raiders and some poor decision making saw Corowa fall to 7 for 45.
In walked the captain with a back-bone of steal.
The dynamic captain and Jack Eales took the Roos from hopeless to hopeful, adding some hard fought runs to the total.
Unfortunately Jack fell victim too, Raiders seeing the solid-as-a-rock Lizard come to the crease.
Lizard with a “Gillespie like batting innings” and power hitting Hattsy took the Roos from a glimmer of hope to a solid chance of the win to unfortunately see them fall 4 runs short.
Sixty-one runs from Hatts was one of the best innings seen all season.
B Grade
In the last home game for the year, a win and a little help was needed in other games to help the B Grade Roos sneak into 6th and have a shot at finals.
Losing the toss Raiders elected to bat, but Corowa was happy to have a bowl.
Fuge and Williams opened the bowling. Williams took the first wicket on 35, but a good partnership took the score to 119 before Phibbs struck, then Nugent soon after having reeled in the scoring with Raiders threatening to make a big score.
Danger man Roberts was then removed cheaply with some great fielding and bowling slowing the scoreboard down, from 4-131 to 6-199.
Angus Williams with 3-27 and Phibbs 2-19 from his 9 overs the pick of the bowlers. The boys did well to keep the under 200.
The batting innings got off to a shaky start with Keenes copping an absolute shocker to be gone for a duck.
When Lane fell shortly after for a blob, the Roos were in trouble at 2-3.
Lavis was hitting them well before he departed for 7, with the score on 24.
Nugent then fell for a solid 20 before Williams and Athanitis got going with the latter in a mood to score runs, putting on 50 before Williams fell for 24.
But still in trouble at 5-80, Phibbs and Athanitis then put on 45 with the latter scoring 42 of those getting Corowa back in the game.
But when Athanitis departed for the match high score of 64 things looked shaky.
Two more quick wickets brought Eyers and Chester to the crease, both batting absolutely brilliantly putting on 43 for 8th wicket, although falling short showed the rest of the team how it was looking right at home in the middle with Eyers 34 not out and the best batsman in his family, and Chester 11 no.
C Grade
Corowa C-Grade (Division 1) has advanced to its second preliminary final in a row after accounting for Wodonga Raiders in the first week of finals.
On a hairy turf pitch in Wodonga, Corowa skipper Blayre Smith won the toss and decided to bowl – a call that paid off as Raiders were skittled for 74.
Catches were the linchpin of the strong fielding performance with Karvan Silva and Danny Osborne holding onto early chances.
Wicketkeeper Ollie Collins claimed two behind the stumps but it was all just an entrée to Matt Shipard’s slips-fielding main meal.
Shipard claimed one of the great catches at first slip off the swing bowling of Luke Kuschert (2/5), going forward with his non-preferred left to take the ball cleanly just centimetres from the ground.
To prove it wasn’t a fluke, Shipard combined with Kuschert again to pouch another fast-moving edge, this time directed at his lap which he took with two hands as if shelling peas.
To make matters worse, Shipard’s footy coach from the Wodonga Saints was in the opposition and the bloke will have to hear about those catches for the rest of the year.
To cap a great fielding performance, keeper Collins and legspinner Silva finished off the innings with two A-grade stumpings, which had some making comparisons with Warne-Healy.
Baxter Macfarlane, John Conroy and Cody Kuschert were all lively in the field with the latter (2/9) joining brother Luke and Silva (2/14) with two wickets, while Caleb Kuschert (2/12) also claimed multiple scalps.
In the chase, Caleb Kuschert (27), Shipard (26*) and Conroy (20*) struck 13 fours between them as Corowa comfortably chased down the total in the 26th over with eight wickets to spare.
Under 16s
Friday night the under 16s bowled to defend their total of 206.
In their last game of the season before finals next week the boys got off to a flyer.
Joe Lavis took the first two wickets in a flash. Jack Torney then quickly jumped on board as he collected one with a snick through to the keeper. Joe and Jack set the tone with the ball.
Eli Lavis then got thrown the ball. It didn’t take him long as he collected two quick wickets also. It looked to be a short game as Baranduda fell to 5 for 15 at 10 overs.
Baranduda then found a little partnership as they kept the fielders on their feet hitting the ball hard. Brodie Eyers then put an end to the partnership taking a wicket lbw.
Bringing a new batsman to the crease he then departed straight away as Brodie was on a hatrick.
Baranduda fell to 7/64 after 20 overs.
Tyler Abley collected a wicket and the boys finished off the show taking 2 run outs at the end to dismiss Baranduda for 94 after 29 overs.
The wickets were shared all round as Joe Lavis, Eli Lavis and Brodie Eyers all collected 2 wickets each. While Jack Torney and Tyler Abley both collected one each.
The 16s will take on Wodonga Bulldogs Wednesday and Friday night (2 day game) this week to hopefully find their way into a grand final.
Get down to Ball Park and have a look to support the boys as they’ll aim to get through to the final.
Under 14s Div 1
The boys travelled to Sumsion Gardens in Wodonga. Chasing 124 to win, openers Eli and Riley made a brilliant start in reaching 69 before Eli was out for 43.
Franklin was promoted to 3 after some strong performances down the order made 2. Blake Collins made an entertaining 10 before being dismissed.
Riley forced to retire at half way point after making a well compiled 19. Harry and Jacob both entertained the crowd with some thrilling stroke play before being dismissed. Austin and Will Massey joined forces and saw Corowa to victory with both boys then retired.
Harry Norman and Will Forest continued to pile on the runs before Will was dismissed.
Jackson Barber then joined Harry at the crease and both boys remained not out at close of play.
Congratulations for an excellent season to all boys finishing the home and away season in second place.
Under 14s Div 2
Day 2. With 150 on the board to defend, opening bowlers Lachie Douglas and Jake Witherden were looking dangerous early and had the batsmen guessing with the ball moving around.
Both were unlucky not to snare a wicket in their opening spell. The breakthrough came in the 10th over with a beautiful inswinger from Abe having Gatta 1/38 at drinks. Callan was the next to strike with a catch at mid-on by Josh Kremmer and partner by Jagger Doody who took the next wicket to have Gatta 3/56 off 16 overs bringing their best batter to the crease.
Callan finished his spell with 3 overs remaining before the next break and came on to bowl the last one before drinks. Gatta’s best batsman moved them along to 3/91 after 21 overs and they were on top of the Corowa bowlers apart from Callan who was causing them problems ... and then some magic happened.
On the 3rd ball of the 22nd over Callan bowled their opening batsman on 47. Next ball he had another batsman clean bowled causing some real excitement for the boys. Callan didn’t disappoint and cleaned up his 3rd batsman in a row to record a HAT TRICK.
Don’t see many hat tricks in junior cricket and this was a cracker with it turning the game on its head.
Their best bat had to change his game and went after a Lachie Douglas delivery he should have left alone with Nate Kuschert taking a sharp chance to dismiss him and have Gatta 7/92 after being 3/91 after 21 overs.
The game wasn’t over and Corowa had 3 wickets yet to get but Callan on his last ball bowled another one to achieve a 5 wicket haul.
Gatta were still striving for the win and the 9th wicket fell on 109 when Oliver McClellan struck with Callan grabbing the catch. Gatta’s last pair lasted for a further 7 overs before their last wicket fell on 125 with Archie bowling him around his legs.
It was, however, Callan Corcoran’s day. A well-deserved hat-trick and 5 for a young bloke that is bowling some great spin bowling to bamboozle the opposition.
Well done mate, well deserved.
Under 12s White
Corowa White hosted Barunduda in Balldale in a crucial game with the winner earning a finals spot. Losing the toss white were sent out to field.
A tight contest between bat and ball for the first 10 overs left the Rangers on 4/44. The second 10 brought a great spectacle with some big hitting from Barunduda but also some really good fielding efforts by the Corowa boys.
Moving the score to 5-94, things looked to be in the visitors favour until the Finley Douglas show rolled into town.
Fin was sensational with the ball in hand collecting 4 for 9 including an unbelievable hat-trick to clean up the tail and leave the score on 94 all out.
Other bowling to mention was Cal Corcoran 1/2 and Bill Smith 1/8. After some wild celebrations Finley and his team had to compose themselves as they still had to chase down this very competitive score.
Opening up with Cal Corcoran and George Smith the boys had a job to do in seeing off some very slick early bowling. The boys delivered before George fell for an important 7. After Archie fell cheaply, Fin came to the crease and it was clear the show was still in town.
He and Cal wielding the Willow like mad men until Cal retired on 25. Fin wasn’t finished yet though playing some fantastic cricket shots all over the park going on make an awesome 51 no off 25. A great individual effort.
Having the game sown up at the half mark the lower order again had a chance for some time in the middle.
The onslaught continued as Kasey Rhodes smashed 22 not out, Jake Rhodes 16 getting better each week and young gun Bill Smith 7 not out.
Score finished on a massive 5/136.
Hitting form at the pointy end of the season now sets up a final against East Albury for a shot in the big dance.
Great effort by all.
Under 12s Blue
Corowa Blue took on lowly placed St Pat's Green on Friday. With a finals place guaranteed, the batting line up was thrown around a little to give everyone a chance to fine tune their skills.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the case and after being sent in the Roos quickly found themselves in strife at three for five after two overs.
Darcy (20), Ollie (12), and Jagger (15 not out) were the only bats to get to double figures, and were bowled out for 62.
This was always going to be hard to defend. The bowling was tight but the Roos just couldn't take wickets. Green's first four all retired and they passed the Roos score with four overs remaining and ended up two for 92.
Wickets were taken by Leo and Mauritz who stepped up for his first game.
The loss saw Corowa slip from 1st on the ladder.
The Roos take on Albury this week for a shot at making the grand final.
Under 12s Div 2
This week it was Scots school at the high school. Tommy Bonnitcha the captain for his last game of under 12s lost the bat flip and Scots decided to have a bat.
Once again the boys were really good in the field. Max and Charlie Tull both getting 2 wickets each.
Bailey Hicks also had his best performance with ball taking a wicket and captain Tom also taking a wicket. Scots finishing up on 115.
With a big total to chase the boys tried their hardest. Jack Timms who has been a star with the bat all year making 20 and hitting the first 6 of his career.
Benji Casey whose batting has improved out of sight also hit 20 smashing four 4s.
The Under 12 Roos ended up falling 20 runs short which was still a great effort. Was a great year with so much improvement from all the boys involved.
A big thank you to all the parents that helped out big and small throughout the year.
