Round 11 of the Albury Wodonga Football Association 2024 competition saw the division one women take on cross-town rivals Wangaratta City.

With a few players missing, the remaining team knew it was going to be a very hard contest.

The Roar started slow. Within the first 20 minutes, they were down 3-0 despite Casey Chandler's best efforts in goal.

It wasn’t all one-way, with the Cobram players making several attempts to see the back of the net.

However, despite some impressive play, they couldn’t turn their efforts into goals.

The second half saw a lift of intensity for the Cobram Roar, with a few positional changes made at half-time.

Impressively, the Roar defenders kept their side in the game, despite the defence's average age being 15.

The hard work of the defence allowed star striker Alyssa Iannucci to score for the Roar, making it 3-1.

The players still had fight in them, and it was former top goalscorer Jess Gannaway, returning to the field for the first game after a bad knee injury, who scored the second goal for the Roar.

A persistent offensive by the Roar kept challenging Wangaratta, but unfortunately time was against them and the game finished 3-2.

Despite this, coach Tanner Tekin said for the players it felt like a win.

The Cobram Roar team next play the Twin City Wanderers.
