Eleven members from the Cobram Barooga Golf Club enjoyed an extended weekend of golf and fellowship in November. The boys were picked up on Sunday morning for three days of challenging golf. First stop was Jubilee Golf Club to the west of Wangaratta.

The course is set in the foothills of the Warby-Ovens National Park with views across the Ovens Valley. A great location for a golf course. The day was full of sunshine and the course was presented in great condition, having firm fairways with tricky greens. As with all hilly courses the greens fall away from the hills and in this cast towards Wangaratta. Graham Hyde had the best stableford score on the day, reading the greens the best, with 35 points.
Day two saw the group travel to the Commercial Golf Club in Albury. The course has some tight narrow fairways as well as a number of challenging obstacles from water hazards, stormwater channels and sloping fairways to test the accuracy and commitment of the golfers’ shot play. Ken Meahan was the best on the day with 33 stableford points.
The final day was at Corowa Golf Club which was also where we spent both nights, in the on-course accommodation. Corowa course, which hugs the banks of the Murray River, was at its best. We played the composite course and Gary Ennals took out the day with 37 points.
The overall winner was decided on the best combined two scores of the trip. Graham Hyde was the winner and took out the Keith Cooper Memorial Trophy with 66 points.
Thanks to Col Smith for organising the trip, Sporties for their sponsorship and the Corowa Golf Club for their great hospitality. A great couple of days were had by all.
