That’s the message from Corowa Golf Club captain Phil Willcoxsen after his stableford competition round last Thursday.
A total of 86 players competed in the event, but the club is keen to see the numbers increase and back towards the previous, often achieved 120 mark.
Phil emphasised Corowa as “a beautiful championship course” worthy of being in the top 100 public courses. His message follows the limited club operations in view of the club’s near $1 million debt and imminent voluntary administration for some seven weeks.
“We need to get through this, securing the future and offering golf,” club General Manager Ashley Boyd said.
“We expect to be in voluntary administration in about a week. We still put the message out there, if anyone wants to partner us, contact us. Hopefully we’ll get some partnerships and we appreciate the kindness of local businesses supporting us.”
The club captain emphasised: “The golf club is an important part of the community.” Club member for 34 years Brad Glare praised the Corowa course. “On a skeleton staff, our maintenance crew have produced an excellent course,” Brad said. “The greens are in as good a condition they’ve been for five years.” Andrew Coburn has been playing the course for 24 years and agreed.
Golf can be played seven days a week at Corowa and although Monday and Friday are proving to be very quiet days, no-one will be turned away.
