Leitchville-Gunbower has finally broken through to get its first win of the Heathcote Distirct Netball League season with a dominant showing against Heathcote in round five.
The Bombers travelled to Barrack Reserve Heathcote to take on the struggling Saints and were immediately effective in front of goal, finding the back of the net on 16 occasions in the opening quarter.
The Saints kept within striking distance, goaling nine themselves in both of the first two quarters, but back-to-back strong performances before half-time meant L-G held a commanding 16-goal lead at half-time.
A slow third term for the Saints meant the Bombers had a good opportunity to get on top of the hosts, tallying 14 goals to make the deficit 23 with a quarter to play.
L-G had its most successful period in front of goal down the stretch, nailing 17 goals to run Heathcote off the court, which still managed 13 in the same time.
The 27-point victory was chiefly created by the Bombers’ consistent offense that was too swift for the Saints to keep up with.
The final score was L-G 65 to Heathcote 38.
The win will serve as a major confidence boost for the Bombers, who look to begin climbing the rankings after a slow start to 2025.
They’ll get a prime opportunity to grab back-to-back wins in round six when they return home to face off against struggling rival Lockington-Bamawm United.
