Greens Opening Day
It was a fabulous day on the greens at Club Mulwala to officially open the season.
The day began with club champions for the past season, Les Spencer and Bev Hulm, rolling the first jack and bowl on the greens.
The Vice Presidents team beat the carefully chosen Presidents team by a massive 60-plus shots.
Benno, the Vice President, was very happy with the result, while Wade, the President, has a bit to think about for next year’s game.
More than 60 players enjoyed the game and a sausage sizzle.
It was a beautiful sight to see so many young players, new players and club veterans all celebrating the start of the season.
Club Mulwala thanked Rich Glen, Leo Kelly, and John and Marylin Walford, who all donated prizes for the raffle.
Tuesday Social Bowls
The game starts at 10am, with players asked to be at the greens by 9.30am. Names are to be placed on the board by 8am Tuesday.
Visitors are very welcome for a fun day, with raffles and prizes for the randomly drawn winners and losers on the day.
The sun was shining last Tuesday, and the club’s greens hosted many visitors and bowlers from other local clubs.
The randomly drawn winners took home a $25 Club Mulwala voucher each, while the randomly drawn losers both took home a $10 Club Mulwala voucher and a bar voucher.
Raffle winners took home a $40 Hicks Butchers voucher, a six-pack of beer and a $20 Ricky Dee’s Pizza voucher.
Club Mulwala thanked its wonderful sponsors.
Pennant 2026/2027
Club Mulwala has entered four sides for Saturday Pennant and three sides for Tuesday Pennant.
The selection committee is currently assessing and collating sides for the upcoming season.
Club Mulwala hopes to continue the success of last season, when the club came home with two premierships.
Anyone intending to play pennant bowls this season is asked to contact the club as soon as possible to secure a spot. All are welcome.
Membership
Full membership remains at only $100 for the 2026/2027 season.
This includes a free pennant shirt for all new players.

Training on Sundays
Club training is held on Sundays from 11am.
All players are encouraged to attend if they are available.
Coaching on Thursdays
Bowls coaching is held on Thursdays from 10am.
The coach is on the greens to offer his knowledge to all bowlers at every stage of their bowling journey.

Saturday 29 August – Willy/Mul Cup Practice Match. This is played annually against Williamstown Bowls Club, with Club Mulwala hoping to retain the trophy again this year.
Saturday 5 September – Practice match against Strathmerton Bowls Club.
Tuesday 8 September – Intraclub Practice Match.
Saturday 19 September – Practice match against Cobram Bowls Club.
Tuesday 22 September – Practice match against Benalla Bowls Club.
Saturday 3 October – Practice match against Berrigan Bowls Club.

Western Border Challenge – Starting Friday 4 September. The tournament runs each Friday night during September. A list is on the notice board for anyone intending to play.
Ladies Luncheon
The Ladies Luncheon will be held on Sunday 30 August at Diggers Restaurant, Club Mulwala, from 12 noon onwards.
Members are asked to add their names to the list on the notice board.

Upcoming Events
The 2 Bowl Triples Tournament starts at 6.30pm, with club uniforms to be worn. It is held one Wednesday per month.
The first competition starts on Wednesday 9 September under lights. An entry sheet is available outside the club. Single entries will be accepted. The entry fee is $36 per team.
The Club Pennant Practice Match will be held on Tuesday 22 September at Barooga Bowling Club, with a 9.30am start and lunch provided.
The Inter Club Pennant Practice Match will be held on Saturday 19 September at 9.30am.
The upcoming 4 Clubs Competition starts on Friday 4 September at Club Mulwala, followed by Friday 11 September at Yarrawonga Bowling Club, Friday 18 September at Tungamah Bowling Club and Friday 25 September at Cobram Bowling Club.
Friday Night Social at Yarrawonga Bowls begins with the bar opening at 4.30pm.
A meat tray raffle and gift cards are available each week, with the jackpot membership draw at 6pm.
Complimentary nibbles are provided, with hot savouries served on the last Friday of the month.

Wednesday Social Bowls Report
Threatening skies and a forecast for rain in the afternoon did not deter too many bowlers from participating last Wednesday, 19 August.
This was reflected in a solid showing of 46 players, with games played across both greens in the north-south orientation.
Finding the conditions to their liking on rink 2 were Nicole and Noel Smith, who walked away with the first prize of $100 and a drink card each.
Nicole and Noel’s opponents on rink 2 were Deb Rodgers and Karen Guymer.
The second winning rink prize was won by the team of Terry Cartwright and Julian Jones, who won $50 for their efforts.
Terry and Julian’s opponents on rink 2 were Merv Hannaford, from Katandra West, and Phil Thorne, from Shepparton.
The losing rink consolation prize was won by the combination of Garry Seamer and Bruce Davie, who won $30.
Garry and Bruce’s opposition on rink 1 were Tony Forester and Keith Eade.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize was won by Karen Guymer, whose selection of number 74 saw her win $30.
Greg Fisher won the second Lucky Number prize of $20 with his selection of number 31.
Friday Social Bowls Report
Fine weather on Friday brought bowlers out in force, with 52 players enjoying the conditions and the 2 x 4 x 2 nominated pairs format.
The orientation of play was east-west, and green speeds were around 13 seconds.
Greeting the judges in first place were Liliana Borwick and Laureen Smith, who played Lynne Baxter and Mick Reilly on rink 12.
Liliana and Laureen won $100 and a drink card each.
The runners-up prize of $70 was shared by Gavin Borwick and Dave Charrington.
Gavin and Dave’s opponents on rink 6 were Peter Taylor and John Shaw.
The losing rink consolation prize was won by Karen Guymer and Deb Rodgers.
Karen and Deb played Terry Baxter and Rob Hummel on rink 7 and won $40.
The club thanked Terry Baxter and Rob Hummel, who filled in when called upon on Friday morning.
The first Lucky Number prize of $25 was won by Robert ‘Bluey’ Watts from Yarrawonga Bowls Club.
The second Lucky Number raffle prize, also $25, was won by Bob Brokenshire.
There are only five instalments of Friday Social Bowls remaining for 2026.
Friday Social’s final day is Friday 25 September.
Demand for places has been extremely strong this year, so bowlers wishing to play during the final five weeks are asked to ensure their names are on the entry sheets at the Bowls Office promptly to avoid missing out.
Sunday Funday Social Bowls
A foggy morning transformed into a fine and sunny afternoon for this week’s edition of Sunday Funday Social Bowls.
Twenty-four players enjoyed the conditions on the west green, which was the arena for the afternoon’s play.
The draw to the spider icebreaker was won by Noel Smith, who won $5.
Hayden Beca’s bowl was very close but just missed out on the prize.
The winners of this week’s first prize were the team of Chris Morrissy and Ross Lloyd, who won $50.
Ross and Chris’ opponents on rink 5 were Karen Guymer and Ray Brown.
It was good to see Ross back on the green after a hiatus from bowls, with the club welcoming him back.
The second winning rink prize of $30 was won by the combination of Sue Beca and Mark Dorman.
Sue and Mark played Nicole Smith and Greg Green on rink 4.
Sue’s teammate for the afternoon, Mark Dorman, was a visitor to Yarrawonga from Coomealla, NSW, just north of Mildura.
YMGCR welcomed Mark and hoped he enjoyed his afternoon.
The losing rink consolation prize was won by the team of Karen Bianco and Norm Windebank, who played Hayden Beca and Fred Donaldson on rink 7.
Karen and Norm shared $10 in prize money.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $15 was won by Karen Bianco, while the second Lucky Number raffle prize of $10 was won by Ron Lamson.
