The ‘North of the Border’ pennant is going ahead but only for five weeks in October, as October has five Saturdays. Official pennant for Murray Bowls, will start on November 6 for midweek pennant and November 7 for Saturday pennant, now that restrictions have eased for Victorian residents.
All Victorian-based bowlers need to have a ‘Border Resident’ permit in place and keep them up-to-date, so there are no hiccups later on.
Obviously it means names need to be down to play pennant and, if you haven’t done so yet, now would be a good time to do so.
It is now less than two weeks before the ‘North of the Border’ pennant will be played as the start date has been changed to October 3.
These games will be an ideal practice for the coming season.
Names need to be down now to enable teams to be selected and advised to all concerned. Games will start at 1 pm with first game being played at Tocumwal, followed by Berrigan, Barooga, Finley and Jerilderie.
There will be no catering to comply with COVID restrictions.
Also, subject to confirmation, the Murray Bowls annual meeting will be held Monday, October 19, and nominations will be sought for the various positions once all is confirmed.
Women’s social bowls on September 14 had 15 attending, with Ruth Burnett, Mary Hoog and Fran Thatcher winning. Women’s trade day on the Wednesday was played at Berrigan and is was a winning day for Barooga, with both winning teams loving the well prepared greens.
Carol Wigg, Elaine Blizzard and Ruth Burnett won the day with Cheryl Townsing, Carol Cox and Ruth Campbell runners-up.
On Friday, September 18, Keith’s Friday had 36 bowlers attending. With a few of our Victorian members now able to attend, it helped to swell the numbers.
Winners of the day were Ruth Campbell and Graeme Hickey with +15. Runners-up were Kevin Kennedy and Jill Toohey with 14.
Best first game went to Gerald Rothe and Heather Crosthwaite with 11. Best second game went to Marita O'Kane and Peter Russell with 6.
With the border restrictions being eased, the club can now go ahead with events.
