The Hawks kicked 6.4 in the second term to lead the Magpies by 39 points at half-time.
A further 20 points in the third quarter sealed the result against a winless Moama.
‘‘It wasn’t convincing but in the end it was the win we were after,’’ Barooga coach James Hazelman said.
‘‘The second quarter gave us a good buffer but we still need to work on playing for four quarters.’’
Hazelman pointed to Ricky Thomson, who returned to the side against Moama, as the standout performer, while Richard Gatcum and William Robinson also received honourable mentions.
Barooga will welcome the interleague weekend off as a chance to refresh the squad heading into the halfway point of the season.
Hazelman believes finals football was still on the cards after the much-needed victory.
‘‘We have some tough games against Nathalia and Numurkah over the next couple of games,’’ he said.
‘‘I don’t think there is much between say third and 10th, so if we can go into the second half of the season with a four and five or five and four record we will still have a good chance of making the finals.’’
A healthy crowd was at the match as Barooga celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its 2009 flag-winning reserves.
