The 40-32 loss to the Dolphins in the "Battle of Brisbane" on Saturday night was their seventh in a row, which is the most consecutive defeats in one season at the venue in the club's history.
On the flip side, it was the Dolphins' seventh win in a row at the stadium this year.
The Broncos are in 16th position on the ladder and, excluding the 2010 Melbourne side that played for no points after salary cap breaches, on track to become the worst defending premiers in NRL history.
Wests Tigers finished 11th in 2005 and Canterbury came 12th in 2005 after winning titles the previous season.
Suncorp Stadium has traditionally been where the Broncos turn on their best displays but they have not won at the venue since round eight when they beat the Bulldogs 32-12.
"That's something there that we need to definitely work our way back," coach Michael Maguire said when asked if the Broncos had lost their aura at home.
"We are spoilt to be able to play at a great ground like this.
"Everyone loves coming to play here. Everyone's going to turn up and be at their best, so we need to be at our best.
"We're currently not doing that. We're not doing that for long enough. So we need to own that and take ownership around making this the fortress that we know we can."
To be second-last after winning the competition last year is a bitter pill to swallow.
"It hurts," Maguire said.
"Is it something I thought we'd be going through? No.
"There's still plenty of work that we need to do ... to sit consistently at the top of the ladder."
The Broncos' defence has been appalling this season. Conceding 40 points after leading 24-0 is not good enough. Brisbane have averaged 27.05 points against this year compared to 20.16 in 2025..
"You can't leak that many tries to be able to really contend. It's something we need to be better at," Maguire said.
"Around our defence, there's areas there that we need to look at. Moving into the pre-season, we all need to take ownership."
A highlight of the loss, apart from five-eighth Ezra Mam's hat-trick, was the standout performance of 32-year-old Billy Walters in his first starting game at hooker since rupturing an ACL in the semi-finals last season.
"It is a testament to all of Bill's hard work," captain Pat Carrigan said.
"It would have been tough sitting in his position last year and fighting his way through it, he has earned his spot.
"The Walters name is synonymous with the club and he lives and breathes what it is to play for the Broncos.
"I am really proud of him and disappointed we couldn't get the win for his 100th (Broncos) game."
