Giving spirit applauded

Kim O’Keeffe with Azem Elmaz volunteering for People Supporting People.

I am delighted to support the second issue of Our Community, our Volunteers.

I am filled with so much gratitude and pride, and a deep sense of responsibility and connection to our shared mission of encouraging and supporting volunteering, something that has always been close to my heart.

Over the years I have witnessed many caring, selfless individuals who dedicate their time and energy to volunteer work.

It is truly inspiring to see how many people in our communities step up, show up and lend a hand when needed.

It has also been really wonderful to see the youth in our community becoming involved in volunteering.

Volunteers are the unsung heroes who keep numerous organisations and varied groups afloat.

Many would not survive without the support of volunteers.

Living in regional Victoria, we get to see the power and connection of community.

We are a community that cares very deeply for each other and have supported each other during the most challenging of times.

Whenever I have called upon the community for volunteers or for support, the response has been overwhelming.

The beauty of volunteering is its accessibility — there are many ways to get involved, and even the smallest contributions can make a significant difference.

You just have to find something that works for you.

Volunteering strengthens our communities and it strengthens our connection to others.

There are many organisations and groups calling out for volunteers.

I have been a volunteer for over 25 years, and it brings me an immense sense of joy and fulfilment.

It is a space where I am surrounded by selfless, giving people, all united by a common goal of helping others and making a positive difference.

It truly is my happy space.

Thank you to every volunteer out there.

Your dedication, compassion and commitment truly are making a difference.
