I want to preface this by saying this is in no way a political article but what I’m talking about is our morals and the standard that we try to hold ourselves to; do you hold to your convictions strongly or do you waver easily?
The reason I ask this is because recently my wife and I have been discussing what we want the values, morals/convictions to be for our family.
We have three young children and we want to make sure that we do our very best to remain consistent in what we teach our children.
Often, it’s not our choice on morals that others will question but it whether or not we actually hold to what we say we believe or what we say we stand for.
The other side of this is sometimes we place too much of a burden on ourselves to hold to a standard that is nearly impossible, and in this way we place increased stress and pressure on ourselves.
We are not designed to carry heavy burdens like this. Even Jesus himself in scripture states the following in Matthew 11:30: “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
I know a common misconception of Jesus and those who have faith is that there are so many restrictions on us in things we can’t do. You can see from Jesus’s words that this is actually not the case.
I want to encourage you today, if you do not know what morals and values you hold, take some time to consider what they might be; and, if you do have in place a standard for yourself, soberly consider how well you have been holding to them.
I’ll finish with this quote from Walter Schloss: “Have the courage of your convictions once you have made a decision.”
Blessings.
