Her international debut on the world triathlon scene started in 1994 at the ITU Triathlon World Championships where she won the race and world title by the largest margin ever.
She then went on to be ranked world number one for three years, won more races than any other triathlete before her and won another world title.
Ms Carney will be discussing her life experiences at Cobram Secondary College and Barooga's BW Fitness.
“Cobram is the place where I did my first Olympic distance triathlon and I haven’t been back since,” Ms Carney said.
Ms Carney wrote her biography herself and said it was a truthful account of the life of an athlete.
“I kept diaries when I was racing, so it's quite detailed,” she said.
“It covers my life so far and my cardiac arrest that ended my career.
“It's quite personal stuff in there and there’s been comments that it's real and raw.”
Barooga's BW Fitness owner Brooke Williams, who also suffers a heart condition, co-ordinated the event.
“It was on her Instagram saying if you buy 20 copies of her biography she will come out,” Ms Brookes said.
“I've been in contact with her before because we're both athletes with heart conditions, so it was my mission to get 20 people together.
“I've heard her stories which are amazing — she's so relentless in her competitive streak and I'm really keen to meet her in real life.
“I think she has a lot to offer the community in showing what hard work can achieve.”
Although Ms Carney does not see herself as an inspiration, she said it was nice to help others.
“I’m an example of what’s possible when things aren’t 100 per cent right,” she said.
The meet and greet will be held on Saturday, April 24, at BW Fitness Barooga from 10.30 am.
Book signings will cost $40 person.
