The event was jointly hosted by Edward River Council and the Country Women’s Association Deniliquin, with support from the Conargo Community Hall Committee, and generated meaningful discussion about community and the role women play.
The beautiful, air-conditioned hall was complemented by warm, sunny weather outside, where guests enjoyed drinks and conversation while listening to students from House of Piano play background music.
Inside, the lunch catered by The Crossing featured a spread of cold meats, salads, and decadent triple chocolate brownies for dessert, creating the perfect setting for a celebration of women in the region.
The theme of the day, ‘Stories of Strength and Community’, was highlighted through a speakers’ panel facilitated by respected regional communicator Robbie Sefton AM.
Guest panellists were 2026 Edward River Citizen of the Year Mari Drennan, creative community champion Kate Butler, dairy industry powerhouse Janette 'Nette' Falls and for Senator Perin Davey.
The panel shared personal stories and reflections on the turning points in their lives, their favourite aspects of living in the Edward River region, the importance of water in the area, and advice for young people.
Their insights were entertaining and thought-provoking, keeping the audience engaged throughout the afternoon.
Councillor Shirlee Burge was also part of the formal proceedings, given the honour of welcoming guests to the hall.
As part of the fun, a raffle was held by the CWA. First prize, the original artwork by local First Nations artist Chelsea Hansen, was won by Peri Chappell.
Norma Hughes won the Total Bliss Skin Body Beauty voucher and Suzie Clark won the EAU Bags wine holder and bottle of pinot rosé.
Anne Brown, Jane Glowrey, Mardi Chartres, Louise Graham, Emma Herbert-Kenny, Libby McCalman and Bonnie Clapham.
