What made sporting headlines in 2022 - October

• ‘Races cancelled: Track-side activities to go ahead’ - A week after excitedly promoting they could go ahead with a full Deniliquin Caulfied Cup Day race meet for the first time since COVID-19, excessive rain forced the Deniliquin Racing Club to call off the racing portion of the day. The gates would still open for a track-side party, however.

• ‘Talen attends TAP program’ - Deni Junior Giants basketball star Talen Barnes attended a camp as part of the Talented Athlete Program (TAP) in Sydney. TAP is a specialist junior talent development program conducted by Basketball NSW in conjunction with the NSW Office of Sport. It is an intensive three day training and education event held at Sydney Homebush Centre. The kids are exposed to various high performance platforms and trained under Basketball NSW head coaches.

• ‘DNA and Rhinos impacted by flooding’ - Playing schedules for Deniliquin cricket and netball were altered as a result of flooding in the Edward River. The flood gate closing access to Memorial Park was installed, and water covered the Deniliquin Netball Association courts, the number three oval and part of the Deniliquin golf course. The Deniliquin Rhinos and DNA clubrooms were surrounded by water.
