Echuca-Moama Parkinson’s District Support Group held the event to help fund services provided to those with Parkinson’s.
The walk was held under extreme conditions, with non-stop rain through out the day.
However, walkers were not deterred. The young and elderly — those with Parkinson’s and their carers, friends and supporters — all walked, regardless of the conditions.
A total of 75 walkers covered a combined 216km at Aquatic Reserve in Echuca.
Fight Parkinson’s is a not-for-profit organisation that provides free assistance when contacted.
Support group facilitator Mike Bruty said it was inspiring to see so many show determination and grit in tackling the walk despite the continuous rain.
The day rounded off with several raffles and a total of $11,586 was raised.
Members thanked businesses and individuals who donated money or raffle items for the event. The community support was really appreciated.
Members also thanked state Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh for braving the weather and opening the event.
The support group has been busy with its monthly meetings, and a meeting later this month will see specialist speakers from Fight Parkinson’s visit Echuca.
The meeting on July 23 will give members up-to-date information on practical ways to best manage their Parkinson’s symptoms and also learn of developments in research.
This seminar is open to members only but anyone can become a member by ringing Sue Solly on 0428 106 506. There is no membership fee or commitment required.
