There is a current shortage of good quality jackets, overcoats, jumpers, scarves and trousers.
Coronavirus lockdowns last winter meant people did not buy as much new seasonal clothing, which has had a flow-on effect to donations a year later.
Vinnies Victoria executive general manager of commercial services Jeff Antcliff said many people were struggling as a result of COVID-19.
“Many people are doing it tough and buying new clothing is not an option,” he said.
“This is the perfect time to go through your wardrobe and have a look at things you haven’t worn in the past year.
“When people donate to Cobram's Vinnies store, they are helping their local community.”
Mr Antcliff said the quality of donations have improved significantly in the past year.
“I want to really acknowledge the people of Cobram and the Goulburn Valley region, we’ve noticed a significant improvement of the quality of donations — they are pressed, folded and laundered,” he said.
“If it's good enough for your family, it’s good enough for Vinnies.”
All profits of Vinnies shops go right back into the local community to fund welfare services that help people who are struggling to put food on their tables or pay their bills.
Winter clothing donations will be accepted until spring when the weather gets warmer.
“We always encourage people to give their donations directly to one of our volunteers at the counter so we can say thank you,” Mr Antcliff said.
This year Vinnies will sell more than six million items of clothing and save a further 3.5 million kilos of textiles from landfill.
Cobram Vinnies shop manager Jody Grinter said the shop was always looking for volunteers.
“We're looking for people to complete general shop duties, to sort donations and register operation,” she said.
“We're looking for people from Monday to Saturday, if they could spare a few hours on a Saturday, it would be much appreciated.
“There's a friendly atmosphere here and training is provided.”
Volunteers need to undergo a police check and Working with Children's Check, paid for by Vinnies.
Those who are interested in volunteering can visit the Cobram store or phone 5872 1737.
