Our local golfers defeated Murray Downs 3-2 in an exciting final, played on the Deniliquin course.
The Deniliquin team comprised Troy Grant, Jackson Campbell, Jimmy Poka jnr, Matt Thomas and Vince Kelly.
Ross Taylor had played every game during the season but was unavailable for the final due to family commitments.
In the final Troy Grant gave the team a solid start with a comprehensive 6/5 win.
Jackson Campbell started well but eventually lost his match 3/2, while Jimmy Poka jnr went down 2/1 after a tight contest.
Vince Kelly levelled the card with a 2/1 win, leaving Deni and Murray Downs tied at 2-2, with Matt Thomas in a tight battle, but one down on the 18th when he chipped in to take the match down the 19th, then on to the 20th.
Thomas hit the long par three green on the 2nd hole and made par, and when his opponent missed a putt for par the title was in Deniliquin’s hands.
Congratulations to our leading golfers for claiming a well-earned victory.
