Victoria Park Lake closed for public use during school holidays

Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake will be closed for public use during the upcoming school holidays while the regular cutting of eel grass takes place.

The surrounding park and playgrounds will remain open and will not be affected by the works.

The works begin on Monday, September 21 and will run for two weeks from 6am to 6pm, excluding the weekends.

Greater Shepparton City Council will use an aquatic harvester boat to cut the plants below the surface. The plant matter will be stored on board to be disposed of later.

Some minor off-cuts may wash up on the banks. Any such debris will be removed by council.

Eelgrass is maintained due to the important environmental benefits it provides, including improving water quality, supporting aquatic life, and helping to maintain a healthy and balanced lake ecosystem.

“Eel grass harvesting is an important process and is part of council’s regular routine maintenance of the area to ensure it remains a great community facility,” council director infrastructure Aidin Montazami said.
