The large gathering was engaged by speeches from students of St Patrick’s and Tongala primary schools and guest speaker Peter Dawson.
The Last Post was sounded by bugler, Mark Turner, and vocalist John Rochford captured the attention of the crowd with his rousing rendition of the Australian National Anthem.
All in attendance were then invited to share breakfast, generously prepared by the Lions Club of Tongala, and served by the Lions Ladies.
Later in the morning, a substantial number of participants gathered to join the march down the main street to shire hall for the commemorative service.
They were delighted to observe the arrival of eight light aircraft, led by Neil Madill, flying in formation down the length of Mangan St. It was a truly spectacular demonstration.
Following the emotive commemorative service, which included musical numbers performed by the Pure Drop Band, the assembly made their way back to the RSL Hall for the wreath-laying ceremony.
Councillor John Zobec represented the Campaspe Shire, and other local organisations and individuals laid wreaths in honour of the fallen.
The Tongala RSL sub-branch is grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of the day’s events, and to all who attended and supported the Anzac Day activities.
